Foreword by Her Grace the Duchess of Beaufort
The Badminton Dressage Championships were started in 1989 with the aim of promoting the development of dressage horses, ponies and riders of all ages. The event is held over two days in Badminton Park.
Classes include the Young Dressage Horse of the Future, Grass Roots, Middle of the Road and High Performance, as well as Pony Club and Riding Club Team and individual competitions. Competitors for the Young Dressage Horse, Grass Roots, Middle of the Road and High Performance have to qualify at regional competitions throughout the country from January to the end of June each year.
The Young Dressage Horse of the Future has produced some notable prize winners including two Olympic prospects for 2012, Uthopia and Valegro.
